Zoo pins mating hopes on sunshine
Flamingo
The zoo has 50 Chilean flamingos
Staff at Jersey Zoo are hoping the spell of sunshine stays because the poor summer weather so far has meant their flamingos are not mating.

The zoo has usually seen a large number of eggs laid but it appears the absence of sunshine has meant the flamingos simply have not felt amorous.

There are two species of flamingo at the Durrell wildlife park, 29 Greater and about 50 Chilean flamingos.

With time running out, keepers are hoping the sun stays put.
