French police are not allowed to carry guns or CS spray

A main road in Jersey was closed for most of Wednesday by French police for a major cycle race.
The island played host to the time trials in the Tour de Bretagne for the first time.
A total of 120 world class professional cyclists raced up and down Victoria Avenue against the clock.
The Avenue between Bel Royal and West Park as well as surrounding roads were closed by 26 French officials throughout the day.
They have been given temporary jurisdiction over the road which is technically private, but they are not being allowed to carry guns or CS spray.
Other roads closed include the Esplanade between St Aubin's Road and Gloucester Street, Paris Lane at First Tower, Tyneville Lane, the Spur Road at First Tower, Farley's Lane, Rue du Galet and Peirson Road.
Motorists have reported long tailbacks throughout the morning.
