Nurses reject States' pay offer
Jersey's nurses have rejected the latest States' pay offer and have discussed the possibility of taking strike action.

More than 100 nurses met on Monday night to discuss the 2.74% offer. They unanimously rejected it.

Union leader Kenny MacNeil said morale was low and nurses were feeling under-appreciated.

The States Employment Board said nurses were still paid comparatively more than other island workers.

Kenny MacNeil said that local nurses were still paid less in comparison with the UK and that they were not happy with working conditions.

He said they discussed strike action but wanted to make their position clear to the States before they made any decision about whether to go ahead.

The Royal College of Nursing and the Jersey Nursing Association had put forward a claim for a 8.4% pay increase.

The employment board in Jersey raised its pay offer to States workers from 2.3% to 2.7% in February.
