Dating club bemoans lack of men
The organiser of a Jersey dating club says it is suffering from a shortage of men aged between 40 and 50.

The After 8 Club has been running since February and holds regular singles nights, arranging for people to go out for drinks and meals in a group.

Organiser Michelle Renault thinks fears of "being married off" could be making them reluctant to join.

But she says their worries are unjustified and there is no pressure to get involved with anyone.

Ms Renault also thinks the men may be using internet dating sites to avoid meeting potential dates face-to-face.

But she believes her club is actually a less daunting way of meeting new people.

"On the internet you've got a picture of yourself, so it's based on your looks," she said.

"But if you come to our club you're using your humour and your personality."

The club's next meeting is on 21 October.
