Five honours for Jersey residents
Four men and a woman from Jersey have been honoured by the Queen in the New Years Honours list.

Marcus Binney, the founder and president of Save Britain's Heritage, was appointed CBE for services to conservation of the built environment.

Nicholas Cabot, Robert Tilling, Owen Wiscombe and Diana Toole were all made MBEs in the honours list.

Mr Cabot, who was honoured for his services to choral music, said he was "totally, utterly, absolutely amazed".

'Worthy ambassador'

He said receiving the letter from the Prime Minister's Office was a strange experience.

"When one gets a letter from 10 Downing Street, you can't quite believe it. It's totally surreal", he told BBC News.

"It's nice that someone thinks I deserve it, but really a large part goes to all the people who sing with me."

Mrs Toole's MBE was awarded for her services to the Cheshire Home and to the Methodist Church in Jersey.

She said: "It's a great honour, but the award is not just for me, but on behalf of many, many other people.

"I'd like to thank the people who nominated me and I hope I can be a worthy ambassador."
