Volunteers help clear wild plant
Gorse growing at La Corbiere
The Hottentot fig is smothering native plants like gorse
Volunteers helped staff from Jersey's Environment Department remove a plant that is threatening a well known beauty spot.

The Hottentot Fig, from South Africa has been growing near Corbiere and putting native plants, like gorse and heather, at risk.

The plant has caused problems on the island for a number of years.

Its fast growth means it can establish itself and then smother native plants like heather and gorse.

The Environment Department has asked volunteers to help remove it by pulling the plant out by hand.

On Friday school pupils from Victoria College lent a hand and Saturday's clearance at Gorselands near the site used by the regular car boot sale.
