Ferry captains are to help the environmental authorities by keeping records of the number of dolphins they see on their voyages.
Several sightings of marine mammals have been seen around Jersey recently.
A group of dolphins has been reported playing with bathers near Le Braye slip and one ferry company claimed that 300 dolphins were spotted near the island.
Marine biologist Andrew Syvret says the captains' assistance will be a great help to them.
