Pupils at an Isle of Man primary school have released Chinese lanterns into the sky to remember their head teacher who died on Monday.

Vicky Dassoulas had taught at Anagh Coar Primary School in Douglas for 16 years and became head last year.

Mrs Dassoulas wanted the children to remember her by releasing the lanterns into the sky.

She made arrangements for the ceremony to be held before her death, the Department of Education said.

Mrs Dassoulas, who had battled a serious illness for some time, leaves behind a husband and three children. She was described by colleagues as "a huge personality".

Youngsters at primary schools across the island also wore rainbow-coloured clothing for a dress-down event in aid of children's hospice Rebecca House.
