The oldest parliament in the world has joined one of the newest developments in social networking. Tynwald, the Isle of Man's parliament, can now be followed in 140 character bursts on Twitter. More than 100 people have so far signed up to the service, which was launched at the Clerk of Tynwald office at the start of May. The feed provides information on order papers and Tynwald news, but is also providing live updates on sittings. Tynwald is of Norse origin and has existed on the island for more than 1,000 years, making it the oldest parliament in the world with an unbroken existence. It has two branches, the Legislative Council and the House of Keys, which sit separately to consider legislation.
