A charity which caters for many disabled people on the Isle of Man has had to cut 17 jobs to cope with the economic crisis.

Manx Foundation for the Physically Disabled has said it will run out of cash next June, so has also sold two properties to gather its savings.

Chairman David Cooke has warned that many other charities are struggling to raise money to continue.

"It is worrying, a lot of the island's social care relies on charities."

He added: "Many charities are having difficulty surviving, and this comes at a time when the government has no spare cash.

"If charities go under then it will be the people who need help who will be left in distress."
