Canada visit boosts island links

High Commissioner James Wright
Mr Wright said he was excited by the business contacts generated

Relations between the Isle of Man and Canada have been strengthened by the visit of its high commissioner, the Manx government has said.

James Wright got an overview of the island's government, public services and economy during his two-day visit.

Plans for a tax information exchange agreement (TIEA) between the countries were also discussed with ministers.

Chief Minister Tony Brown said the visit had been a chance to develop business and political links.

Mr Wright said he was excited with the business contacts generated by his visit.

"We have achieved exactly what we set out to do in terms of growing relations between Canada and the Isle of Man," added the commissioner.

"The island has a strong and diversified economy and I am keen to capitalise on a number of new opportunities, particularly with regard to e-commerce and emerging sectors such as the space industry."
