Manx swine flu cases 'contained'

The island has 11 confirmed cases of swine flu

The number of confirmed cases of swine flu on the Isle of Man has risen to 11, health officials have revealed.

But all of the cases were acquired from abroad and the island does not yet have any evidence of community transmission.

It means health officials are still trying to contain the virus, rather than moving to a "treatment phase", like in the UK.

Despite the row over advice in the UK, pregnant women on the island are advised to continue as normal.

However, if they are travelling to the UK, they should weigh up the risk against the need to travel, the Department of Health said.

Pregnant women who do travel should follow UK government advice on avoiding crowded places and unnecessary travel, the Manx government said.

Last week, the Isle of Man government took delivery of its first stock of anti-viral drug Zanamivir to help treat future cases.
