'Strong values' sought by police

People with strong core values and a passion for the community are being urged to join the Manx constabulary in its latest recruitment drive.

Applications are now open for places on the student officer training programme, which starts in January 2010.

A total of 236 officers serve the Isle of Man, which has a population of about 80,000, and the student intake will replace those retiring.

Recruits must be physically fit and aged between 18 and a half and 40.

Insp Keith Kinrade, staff development manager, said candidates would face 15 weeks of intensive training.

"We are not looking for the finished article," he said.

"The organisation will invest time and resources to maximise their potential to ensure they develop into police officers capable of providing a service that the island community not only expects but deserves."
