Stolen tortoise returned safely

Staff at the Manx Aquatic Centre in Braddan are celebrating following the safe return of a stolen tortoise.

The one-year-old reptile was handed back through a third party on Wednesday evening, it has been taken from the centre on Cooil Road on Monday.

Staff at the centre were worried about it, as the animal was on a course of medication.

Paula Wadsworth from the Island Aquatic Centre said looking after a tortoise required a lot of specialist knowledge.

"They eat all sorts of wild weeds, but there's only a certain selection that they can eat, so you need to know what you're looking for," she said.

"They also have a calcium supplement added to their diet.

"At this age, with the hot weather you have to bath them to make sure they are hydrated properly."
