New land released for allotments

The allotments are in a part of a cemetery

Keen gardeners have been given an opportunity to grow their own produce on a new set of allotments that have been created on the Isle of Man.

An area of the recently established lawn cemetery, at the top of Johnny Watterson's Lane in Douglas, has been set aside for residents to use.

It will be 75 years before the land is needed for burial purposes.

About 25 allotments will be set up on the site which will be run by the borough's Leisure Services Committee.

Chairman Stephen Pitts said there was plenty of land and plenty of time to make use of it.
