Musical star back on Manx stage

Sam Barks
Sam came third in the BBC One programme

Musical star Samantha Barks is returning to her native Isle of Man in the starring role in Cabaret.

Ms Barks, 18, from Laxey, came third last year in BBC One's I'd Do Anything, a show looking for an actress to play Nancy in the West End musical, Oliver!

The island was temporarily renamed the Isle of Sam to show support for the teenager during the competition.

Ms Barks is playing Sally Bowles in a national tour of Cabaret, which at the Gaiety theatre from 2 to 14 March.

"I'm absolutely thrilled to get this part," Ms Barks said.

"Cabaret is one of my favourite shows ever and Sally Bowles is such a great part to play.

"Having met Liza Minnelli during the filming of I'd Do Anything, I'm beside myself with excitement."
