Landmark hotel set to close down

Grand Island Hotel
The hotel is owned by millionaire Trevor Hemmings

A landmark hotel in the Isle of Man is to close with the loss of 19 jobs, it has been announced.

The Grand Island Hotel, in Bride Road, Ramsey, will close its doors for the final time on 9 February.

The management has blamed the credit crunch and increasing operating costs for the decision to close the site.

Nineteen staff will be made redundant as a result of the closure of the hotel, which is owned by millionaire island resident, Sir Trevor Hemmings.
