Car plunges 150ft over cliff top

A couple whose car plunged plunged 150ft (45m) down cliffs in the Isle of Man are "extremely lucky to be alive", said police.

A woman, who had been driving, was taken to hospital after the car went over the cliffs on Marine Drive, near Pigeon Stream, Douglas on Friday night.

She suffered neck and back pain when coastguards rescued her but has since been released from hospital.

A man who was also in the car suffered minor injuries.

The vehicle has been recovered for further inquiries. It is not yet known what caused it to leave the road.

A spokesman for Isle of Man Police said: "This could so easily have been a fatal incident given the location of where the vehicle went down the cliff side.

"A police accident investigator has examined the scene and inquiries are ongoing."
