Ferry sailings between Birkenhead and the Isle of Man are back on schedule after being affected by thick fog in the River Mersey.

The Steam Packet company's Ben-my-Chree ferry was forced to berth at Heysham harbour in Lancashire on Saturday because of poor weather conditions.

Foot passengers had to be transferred by coach between Liverpool and Heysham after the river was closed to shipping.

A Liverpool Ports Authority spokesman said dense fog had affected shipping.
