Officer badly hurt in car attack

An Isle of Man police officer was seriously injured when he was hit and carried along by a car.

Two policemen were speaking to the driver of a car parked on Mona Drive in Douglas when it was driven off hitting one of the officers.

He was carried along on the vehicle before falling on to the roadway. The vehicle was driven off in the direction of Palace Road at about 0335 GMT.

The officer was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The other officer was not injured, but was badly shaken by the experience.

The roadway at Mona Drive has been closed while police officers make inquiries in the area.

Police are treating this incident as a deliberate act and are appealing for any member of the public with information in relation to this incident to contact them.
