Motorcyclist badly hurt in crash

A motorcyclist has been seriously injured in a crash with a car on an Isle of Man road.

The Yamaha R1 motorcycle collided with a Ford Fiesta on the Ramsey to Douglas Mountain Road in Lezayre, near to the Bungalow Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

Police said as the vehicles crashed, the 37-year-old biker veered off the road and on to the hillside.

The motorcyclist, who is from Onchan, is in hospital where his condition is described as serious but stable.

Appeal to drivers

The driver of the Fiesta, an 83-year-old man from Ramsey, suffered minor injuries and shock. He was discharged from hospital after treatment.

Police said two vehicles were following the car over the mountain towards Ramsey when the crash happened at 1430 GMT, but neither stopped at the scene.

Officers are appealing to the drivers or occupants of these vehicles to contact them as they may be able to help with the investigation.

The road was closed for three-and-a-half hours after the crash while enquiries were carried out.
