Homes without power as cables cut

About 40 homes in the Isle of Man have been left without power after workmen damaged electricity cables.

Engineers from the Manx Electricity Authority (MEA) were called to repair the cables in Onchan on Thursday.

The power cut affected homes in the Birchill and Hillberry Avenue areas just after 1600 GMT.

An MEA spokesperson said another company using a JCB digger caused significant damage to some cables but they were working to fix the problem.
