Children rescued from cliff rocks

A woman and two children had to be rescued after getting stranded on rocks below an Isle of Man coast road.

The coastguard and police were called after the three became trapped on rocks 50ft (15m) below Seacliffe Road in Onchan on Sunday evening.

A nine-year-old girl had fallen and hurt her ankle, preventing her from climbing back up the rock face.

Police warned people of the dangers of climbing on rocks on the island's coastline.

Hospital treatment

Officers managed to get the girl, another child, aged 10, and a 20-year-old woman to safety shortly after locating them at 1930 BST.

A police spokeswoman said: "When officers and Coastguard arrived in the area, darkness had set in and it was only by hearing their shouts for help that the officers were able to locate the three people quickly and remove them to safety.

"Thankfully, on this occasion nobody was seriously injured, however the dangers of climbing rocks on the island's coast cannot be underestimated and members of the public are asked to be aware of this fact so that future incidents can be avoided."

The girl was taken to Noble's Hospital for treatment to her ankle.
