Report into Manx Grand Prix jam

The roads in Douglas were brought to a standstill on Wednesday

The Isle of Man's Chief Minister has called for a report into the traffic congestion caused by this year's Manx Grand Prix.

Tony Brown has asked the government's motor sport group to look into why drivers were held up for hours after the event.

Roads in the Douglas area were brought to a standstill on Wednesday when bad weather meant the race was delayed.

The committee will be asked to suggest ways of avoiding delays in the future.

The group is made up of the Isle of Man's Tourism Minister Martyn Quayle, Home Affairs Minister Adrian Earnshaw, Transport Minister David Anderson and other senior officials.

Mr Brown said: "Members of the public suffered serious delays trying to get home on Wednesday evening.

"They are owed an explanation as to why this happened, and what might be done to prevent it happening again.

"It's important that we get a clear picture of the situation so that lessons can be learned for the future."
