Pub evacuated after bomb warning

A Ramsey pub was evacuated after a member of staff received a call saying there was a bomb on the premises.

Police were called out to Ellan Vannin pub in Market Square shortly before midnight.

They cordoned off the area and searched the premises. No explosive device was found and subsequent inquiries revealed that the call had been a hoax.

A man has been arrested over the incident and is helping police with their inquiries.

Sgt Juan Clague said: "There can be no excuse for this type of behaviour, which can cause alarm, fear and uncertainty in the public.

"Anyone who carries out such calls can expect appropriate action through the courts."
