An army bomb expert has carried out a controlled explosion on a hand grenade found on the Isle of Man.

The alarm was raised after the World War II device was found near Johnny Wattersons Lane, Douglas, on Monday.

An army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) officer flew to the island on Tuesday and made the device safe in a nearby field, police said.

A force spokesman said that "at no time was any member of the public placed in any danger" by the device.
