Warning over car valve cap thefts

Car tyres
The caps are known as "dusties"

Parents are being urged to keep an eye on their children's bikes amid a craze for stealing the valve caps from car tyres and fitting them to bicycles.

Police on the Isle of Man have said the most sought after dust caps, called "dusties", are those made from metal or with a high-end logo on, such as BMW.

Officers said the craze had become more widespread over the summer holidays.

Pc Alan Shimmin said early intervention by the police had prevented the matter escalating in Ballasalla.
