Bicycle owners warned over thefts

Cyclists on the Isle of Man are being warned to secure their bicycles after a recent increase in the number of pedal bike thefts on the island.

According to police, the majority of pedal cycles reported stolen are either mountain bikes or children's cycles and are often not kept in secure locations.

Officers are advising owners to lock their bikes when unattended and also to keep them somewhere secure at night.

A record should also be kept of the serial number under the pedal crank.

Police say a photograph of the bike will also help the chances of recovery if the bike is stolen.
