The new bishop of Sodor and Man has been consecrated at a ceremony in York Minster.

The Revd Canon Robert Paterson, 58, succeeded the Right Revd Graeme Knowles, who left the island to become Dean of St Paul's Cathedral.

Mr Paterson worked in Manchester and Wales prior to being Chaplain to Dr John Sentamu, Archbishop of York.

Two Greater Manchester bishops - Bolton and Middleton - were also consecrated at York Minster on Friday.

Sodor and Man is the smallest diocese in the Church of England, overseeing 45 churches and 27 parishes.
