The section of track has been deemed unsafe
Part of the Manx Electric Railway is to be closed this summer over safety concerns.

The section of the railway between Ramsey and Laxey is to close after a report deemed sections of the track to be in unsatisfactory condition.

Tourism and Leisure Minister Adrian Earnshaw said the decision had been made purely on safety grounds.

Ramsey MHK Allan Bell has described the closure as "a major blow to the north of the island".

Mr Earnshaw said his department had spoken to Ramsey's local authorities and they already had some ideas on how to boost tourism in the area during the line closure.

"We have a number of vintage buses and we're exploring the opportunity to use those to transport passengers along that section of the line that we are unable to operate in 2008," he said.

"We also discussed with Ramsey Commissioners the opportunity of putting on the photographic display that will be launched in London in April, that's the Getty Images exhibition of the centenary TT.

"We are hoping to transport that for some of the summer to Ramsey," he added.
