Official bonfire displays 'safer'
Bonfire on Douglas beach, 2006
It is illegal for people under 18 to buy fireworks
People on the Isle of Man are being encouraged to attend official bonfire parties rather than hold their own in an attempt to minimise accidents.

There will be bonfires and firework displays at Peel, Laxey and Port Erin and in the Mooragh Park in Ramsey.

The bonfire and firework display on Douglas Beach, which was reintroduced in 2006 after a long absence, will be held on Saturday 10 November.

Organised events have to comply with strict health and safety guidelines.

The Isle of Man government is keen for people to attend the organised displays.

Fireworks are no longer allowed to be set off outside the Bonfire Night period and New Year without notification.

It is also illegal for under 18s to buy fireworks.
