Sixth form pupils will travel to Uganda
A school in Uganda is nearing completion thanks to the fund-raising efforts of Isle of Man pupils.

Staff and students from St Ninian's High School in Douglas pledged to raise £30,000 to build a new school.

But the total was exceeded with months to spare, meaning work can begin on the school for 300 in Kiwuma. St Ninian's pupils will help paint the building.

Last weekend's May fair made more than £4,000 towards the fund-raising total, which now stands at about £36,000.

Teacher Graham Bassett said: "The school is nearly finished and our sixth form students will travel to Uganda in July to paint it inside and out.

"Some of the extra money will be used to provide books and equipment for the school and the remainder will go towards a project to build houses on the 17-acre school site for street children."
