The work is due to be completed next year
Work is beginning on improving council homes on the Isle of Man.

Douglas Council is carrying out repairs and refurbishment works to 10 properties in the Allan Street, Peveril Street and Orry Street areas.

The scheme is to be carried out in three phases, with three vacant properties being made ready first, to enable the relocation of tenants.

The work includes new windows, roof repairs, central heating and new bathroom and kitchen fittings.

The scheme is scheduled for completion in February 2008, and the overall cost will be £521,000, the council says.

Councillor Doreen Kinrade, chairman of Douglas' public health and housing committee said: "This scheme, together with all the others where work has started or recently been completed, shows Douglas Corporation's determination to bring all its older properties up to modern standards, for the benefit of tenants but also to maintain and protect the properties as publicly owned assets."
