Tynwald mill wheel to be restored
An important part of the Isle of Man's heritage is to be restored.

The 200-year-old wooden water wheel, situated in Tynwald Mills, has not been working for more than half a century.

Once completed it will function as both a tourist and educational attraction for school children to learn about the historical importance of water power.

Stan Kewley, who helped restore the wheel at Styal Mill, and Eric Wilkins, a former Manx power station designer are undertaking the job.

The Manx government has granted funding for tools to do the restoration work although Mr Kewley and Mr Wilkins will be giving their time and expertise for free.

Once the wheel has been restored it will be kept running smoothly by a team of volunteers who will maintain it.

Mr Wilkins and Mr Kewley said they would not hurry the project. "We are just going to take it slowly and do it with pride."
