The school will replace the 100-year-old Albert Road school
Politicians are being asked to give the go-ahead for a £6.9m spend on a new school on the Isle of Man.

Proposals for a new Ramsey junior school to replace the Albert Road School, are to go before Tynwald.

The school would be built on Lezayre Road, alongside the new Auldyn School, with 14 classrooms, group rooms, library and sports hall.

If Tynwald agree the construction, work would start in April for a September 2008 opening.

A playground and outdoor teaching space would also be on the site, as well as a football pitch for the use of both schools and Ramsey Youth Football Club.

Anne Craine, minister for education, said: "The Albert Road School replacement has been many years in discussion and, having finally decided upon the old Auldyn School site, the whole community is keen that we should progress with the building as soon as possible."
