Countdown to Manx darts festival
Niels de Ruiter
Niels de Ruiter decided to enter the festival at the last minute
The Isle of Man is set to stage its 22nd annual darts festival with top Dutch player Niels de Ruiter agreeing to take part.

Mr de Ruiter, who lost the semi-finals of the BDO Lakeside World Championships in January, will be joined by a number of Dutch nationals at the event.

The festival, at Douglas' Villa Marina, starts on 9 March and the matches will be played over the weekend.

In 2006 it carried world championship ranking points for the first time.

Tournament director Les France, of LF Promotions, said: "This is a terrific boost for the competition, confirming its standing on the world stage.

"The Dutch players have proven pedigree and will give British international and county stars a run for their money."
