New Manx political party launched
Peter Karran MHK
Mr Karran is founding a new party
A party which says it offers "real choice" in Isle of Man politics is holding its first meeting.

The Liberal Vannin Party has been formed by Onchan MHK Peter Karran and plans to field candidates at this year's general election.

They include the already declared challenger in Rushen, Tony Wright.

The party pledges politics to the people and is targeting Douglas South, Middle and Onchan with other targets announced nearer the election.

Mr Karran said the new party aimed to bring true democracy, accountability, and audit into the Manx government - offering a real choice to voters.

"We have government by patronage and we are at risk of losing a lot of social advantages we have," said Mr Karran.

"If you had told me 18 years ago we would have better pensions and better student grants than the UK I would not have believed you but these have to be protected."

The public meeting takes place at the Liverpool Arms, north of Douglas, on Monday.
