Limit call on instructor numbers
Learner driver
There are too many instructors on the island, Mr Stewart says
A cap should be placed on the number of driving instructors on the Isle of Man, its professional body says.

The Driving Instructors Association said there was not enough work to go around because there are currently too many instructors.

Chairman Chris Stewart said some could soon be forced to work part-time or seek alternative employment.

Despite a previous lull in the number of people teaching learners, he said: "The slack has been taken up."

Full concentration

"There was a slack in 2002 but now I would say that there are too many instructors doing it at the moment," Mr Stewart said.

He said the danger was many instructors could be forced to take on other jobs to earn a living.

"I don't think full concentration can be given to the job if somebody is concentrating on another job as well as driving instruction," Mr Stewart added.

"So I do believe a cap should be put on driving instructor figures."
