The Isle of Man has remembered those who gave their lives in the two World Wars and other conflicts.

Participants in the annual Armistice Day parade marched to the war memorial on Douglas' central promenade.

The Archdeacon, the Venerable Brian Smith, led the act of worship at the war memorial.

Vice Admiral Sir Paul Haddacks, the island's new Lieutenant Governor, attended the event, along with his wife, Lady Penny Haddacks.

Ex-servicemen and women and the general public assembled under the Villa Marina Arcade for the traditional two-minute silence at 1100 GMT.

'Not forgotten'

Former Commander of the Manx Regiment, Lt Col Brian Mylchreest, said the sacrifice of those who gave their lives must not be forgotten.

"Those of us who were in the wars are an endangered species," he said.

"The young today should be kept informed in their history lessons at school that there is more to history of Britain than Henry the Eighth.

"People ought to know what people did in the war. It would be sad if history goes on and we are forgotten."
