Deputy Trott said he hoped to develop a good relationship with Lord McNally
Guernsey's relationship with the new UK government should be strengthened at a high level summit in June, according to the island's chief minister.
Deputy Lyndon Trott said the British Irish Council being held in Guernsey was an excellent opportunity for the coalition to understand the island.
He said: "The timing of this BIC summit is ideally placed to strengthen the relationship that we already have."
Deputy Trott said it would also be a chance to build new relationships.
He said: "We will also engage directly with the new UK government, we will look to build on the relationships that we have developed with the new administration while they were in opposition.
"We particularly look forward to developing a good relationship with Lord McNally, the newly appointed Minister of State at the Ministry of Justice, responsible for the relationship with the Crown Dependencies."
