Guernsey Airport's runway closure may 'end in chaos'

Guernsey Airport
Guernsey Airport's runway could be closed for up to eight days

The closure of Guernsey Airport's runway for essential repairs could lead to chaos, the chairman of the airport's users committee has said.

The Public Services Department has asked users what they think of closing the airport for up to eight days to complete the work.

The department said it would save money and get the job done quicker.

But Dudley Jehan said it could ruin the island's reputation and lead to the airlines asking for compensation.

He said: "Two of our local airlines operate almost solely out of Guernsey so to sit on the ground for six or eight days is a very serious consideration."
