Planned changes to Guernsey's electoral roll

A number of changes to ensure Guernsey's electoral roll is easier to manage are being put to the States in February.

Before the election in 2008 a number of individuals were left off the roll due to an administrative error.

The Registrar-General had to go to the Royal Court to rectify the situation.

The States Assembly and Constitution Committee said it wanted to make it a simpler process and avoid the need to involve the courts.

It also said it wanted to make it easier for people to remove names from the roll, for example if a close relative wants to remove a deceased person.

If deputies agree the changes would be implemented in time for the next election in 2012.
