Unit moves after ceiling collapse

A day centre for dementia patients in Guernsey, which was closed after heavy rain caused its roof to cave in, has moved to a temporary new base.

Part of the ceiling in a corridor at The Meadows Day Centre at Castel Hospital came down last week.

The centre has been relocated to the Gateway Clubhouse at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital.

Samples from the Meadow Centre have been sent to the UK for analysis to check for possible asbestos.

The building, which provides activities for people with dementia, was closed after the collapse with those attending sent home.

Health bosses said that because the new site was smaller, fewer people would be able to use the facility at any one time.
