Airport fire pay tribunal begins

Airport firefighters training
The firefighters stopped working for two days in May

An investigation into a strike by firefighters at Guernsey Airport earlier this year has opened with a preliminary hearing.

Industrial action by the fire crews resulted in the airport being closed over the late May Bank Holiday weekend.

The tribunal is looking at the facts and circumstances leading up to the strike and how it was resolved.

The preliminary hearing at Les Cotils is establishing the procedures of the tribunal.

The States said the Tribunal of Inquiry should go ahead at a cost of up to £250,000.

The industrial action was carried out after pay negotiations between firefighters and the States broke down.
