Ministers against one 'cabinet'

The majority of Guernsey's Policy Council oppose a call for it to be abolished in favour of a 'cabinet' style department of the chief minister.

Former States member Stuart Falla said it would give the States more direction and help get things done.

Out of the eight members of the 11 man board that BBC News spoke to only one supported the idea.

The comments followed the Wales Audit Office report which said the States lacked direction and leadership.

Home Minister Geoff Mahy was the only member of the Policy Council that BBC News spoke to who supported the idea.

He said: "It addresses the issue of a lack of political leadership in the assembly at the moment which I think needs to be addressed."
