A former soldier who is suffering from the effects of fighting in war-torn countries is setting up a support group in Guernsey.

Graham Culton served in Bosnia, Northern Ireland and Yugoslavia during his 10 years in the British Army.

He moved to Guernsey in 2003 when he was discharged on health grounds, but said his life had been ruined by post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Mr Culton believes sufferers could benefit from sharing their problems.

He said: "It will not just be a thing of care, help and support for the veteran but also their families and loved ones because the impact of post traumatic stress disorder on family life is immense."

On Friday he and an army colleague, and fellow PTSD sufferer Steve Horvath, delivered a letter to 10 Downing Street calling for more help for former servicemen, but he also wants to organise something in the island.

Mr Culton is inviting Guernsey veterans to a meeting, at 1830 GMT on 18 November at Les Cotils, to share their experiences and get advice on their problems.
