Festive tree to 'shine brighter'

Tree of Joy
The tree has been created on the roundabout for four years in a row

Guernsey's Tree of Joy is set to shine brighter than ever before over the festive period.

The island's Rotary Club plans for half of the 32 strings of lights, hung from the SeaGuernsey Mast to create a Christmas tree, to be bright white.

Organiser Dave Parish said the annual campaign helps give Christmas presents to deserving children in the islands.

He said they have invested in a light controller which will be used to create a lighting show effect on the tree.

This will be the fifth time the tree has been created on the weighbridge roundabout.

Islanders will be able to collect tags, with details of the gifts each youngster would like, from the beginning of December from businesses across the island.

The tree is set to be switched on on Friday 27 November.
