Business supports spending change

Plans to introduce new rules on how Guernsey States spend and manage tax payers' money are welcomed by business leaders.

The Treasury and Resources department wants to update the current guidelines to address problems identified in recent reviews.

Paul Luxon, president of the Chamber of Commerce, said it was a positive move.

He said the move to change fragmented and outdated systems would not only save money but improve efficiency.

Mr Luxon said: "Over the last few months there's been recognition that some of the systems that were in place in the States were slightly archaic - they'd just grow up sort of piecemeal over the years.

"By centralising them you get much better value, so it makes sense both from a cost point of view but also an efficiency point of view for those people working within the States system."
