Airport strike tribunal to start

Airport firefighters training
The firefighters stopped working for two days in May

An investigation into a strike by firefighters at Guernsey Airport earlier this year will open with a preliminary hearing on 16 November.

The States confirmed last week the Tribunal of Inquiry should go ahead, at a cost of up to a £250,000.

Industrial action by firefighters resulted in the airport being closed over the late May Bank Holiday weekend.

The tribunal will look at the facts and circumstances leading up to the strike and the way the dispute was resolved.

David Hogg, a Solicitor of the Supreme Court, is chairing the panel of three.

On 16 November a preliminary hearing at Les Cotils will establish the procedures of the tribunal.

Anyone interested in making representations is asked to contact the Royal Court House by Wednesday.

Evidence will not be heard until the full inquiry at a later date, which has yet to be announced.
