A Guernsey broadband provider owned by a Jersey company has announced that it is to buy its competitor.
Wave Telecom, which is owned by the Jersey Telecom Group Ltd, said it had acquired Newtel Guernsey.
However, the deal still needed approval from Guernsey's Office of Utility Regulator (OUR), Wave said.
The OUR said it had been notified but the formal process had yet to begin. It added it wanted to ensure competition was not diminished by the sale.
OUR director John Curran said both operators had provided a good service to consumers.
He said the combined strength of the two companies had the potential to give customers even better deals in key areas such as broadband.
Wave Telecom said it had already invested significantly in Guernsey since entering the market in 2002 and would continue to do so.
Newtel Guernsey said it would work hard to ensure a smooth integration of both companies.
